MELISSA AUF DER MAUR: No Rest For The Wicked
January 30, 2002Former HOLE/SMASHING PUMPKINS bassist Melissa Auf der Maur is currently juggling five music projects, among them a debut solo album, a collaboration with former HOLE drummer Samantha Maloney, A PERFECT CIRCLE bassist Paz Lenchantin and former NEED guitarist Radio Sloan called THE CHELSEA, and a BLACK SABBATH tribute band that calls itself HAND OF DOOM, according to an interview with Auf der Maur that was posted at www.rollingstone.com. Unsurprisingly, Auf der Maur's top priority has been the solo CD, tentatively titled Auf der Maur, which she has been recording in Ontario, Los Angeles and Chicago and which will feature her on vocals and guitar as well as bass. Planned guest appearances and collaborations on the CD include those from former PUMPKINS band mates James Iha and Chris Holmes, members of Auf der Maur's Canadian band TINKER and Rufus Wainwright. The album is tentatively due to be issued through an as-yet-undisclosed label by year's end. As previously reported, THE CHELSEA will make its live debut on February 6th at Los Angeles' Spaceland. "Me and Paz will be doing a lot of singing in the band, but both Radio and Sam sing too," Auf der Maur told Rolling Stone. "The joy of it is me and Paz will be switching back and forth between bass, guitar and baritone guitar. There's a lot of potential there, and they're amazing girls and so talented."
